Looking back on 2024: Five impactful moments that shaped the year

2024 has been an incredible year of learning and collaborating for the Jacobs Foundation. Together with our partners, we’ve been leading in funding evidence on learning, scaling sustainable education solutions through public-private partnerships, and influencing education policies globally.

Next year marks 2025, halfway towards the Sustainable Development Goals deadline to achieve quality education for all children. We are excited to continue to work with our education colleagues and partners from around the world , sharing learning outreach through BOLD and the Digital Museum of Learning, and facilitating the generation of high-quality research through our fellowships and networks.

2024 saw the launch of Colombia Evidencia Potencial en Educación, a public-private partnership dedicated to strengthening Colombia’s public education system by leveraging local public and philanthropic resources. The program aims to create evidence-based solutions to address pressing educational challenges by uniting researchers, policymakers, and educators, and demonstrates how tailored local solutions can drive national education policy priorities.

2. Joining forces with the What Works Hub for Global Education

The Jacobs Foundation joined the What Works Hub for Global Education, an international and collaborative partnership between the UK government’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and USAID, among many others. This collaboration focuses on implementing large-scale education reforms in low—and middle-income countries by generating new evidence and facilitating government uptake of it. With a project planned for Ghana in 2025, the initiative aims to ensure quality education and help progress literacy and numeracy skills.

4. Strengthening learning variability research through LEVANTE

Our first call for proposals for the Learning Variability Network Exchange (LEVANTE) attracted over 180 applications. Launched in 2023 and coordinated by Stanford University, this initiative is a bold step toward understanding how children grow, learn, and develop in diverse contexts. By exploring learning variability, we aim to reshape approaches to education to ensure every child’s learning potential is realized.

Announced at the UN Summit of the Future, this incredible initiative tackles the dual challenges of inadequate funding and limited evidence-based approaches to education.
