Berkeley Haas

Jonas grew up working on his family’s farm in a rural community in the western United States. He graduated from Brigham Young University—Idaho and subsequently joined Teach For America as a high school English teacher in Las Vegas.

Following his time in the classroom, Jonas worked in the United States federal government as an education policy advisor to multiple members of Congress including Virginia Foxx, the Chairwoman of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce. In this role, he conducted oversight investigations of federal workforce programs and drafted legislation to improve student financial aid operations and expand workforce development opportunities to underserved populations.

He then served as a political appointee at the U.S. Department of Education in the Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs, advising on legislative strategy and promoting policies to improve innovation in postsecondary education.

Jonas is passionate about the potential for technology to expand access to higher education and increase economic opportunity in communities similar to his home region. He is currently an MBA candidate at the University of California-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
