UNICEF report highlights the factors driving school success in Côte d’Ivoire

Supported by the Jacobs Foundation, UNICEF has published a new report uncovering the factors that are driving stronger learning outcomes in  certain schools in Côte d’Ivoire, despite similar conditions with schools that are performing less well.

Part of the global Data Must Speak initiative, the report applies a “positive deviance” methodology to identify schools that are outperforming their peers and examines what can be learned from their success. These insights aim to inform education policy and practice at the national level and contribute to improving quality and equity across the education system.

The research, co-created and co-implemented with the Ministry of Education and key partners, shows that factors such as strong school leadership, teacher collaboration, and community engagement are consistently linked with higher performance.

This work builds on the Foundation’s wider commitment to strengthening education systems through initiatives such as the Child Learning and Education Facility (CLEF), a co-funding mechanism in Côte d’Ivoire that brings together government, industry, and philanthropy to drive long-term change.
