Benjamin Herold

Benjamin Herold is a veteran education reporter whose work for Education Week, PBS NewsHour, The Hechinger Report, NPR, and the Philadelphia Public School Notebook. His beat coverage, feature writing, and investigative exposés have all garnered first place awards from the Education Writers Association, and his first book, a narrative nonfiction examination of how suburban public schools undermine the American Dream, will be published by Penguin Press in Summer 2023.
Herold has a master’s degree in urban education from Temple University in Philadelphia, where he lives with his family and cheers religiously for the 76ers. He previously worked as a researcher, documentary filmmaker, waiter, and training specialist for rape-crisis and domestic-violence-prevention organizations.
