Workshop on Investing in Young Children Globally

The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies is pleased to announce a new workshop on Investing in Young Children Globally: The Cost of Inaction.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) on Children, Youth, and Families, in collaboration with the IOM’s Board on Global Health, has established the Forum on Investing in Young Children Globally (iYCG). This forum is funded by the Jacobs Foundation and engages in dialogue and discussion to connect the best science on how to support children’s growth and development. Co-chaired by DCP3 author Zulfiqar Bhutta, iYCG will plan and conduct an interactive public workshop featuring presentations and discussions that highlight opportunities for scientifically grounded investments in young children globally.

Speakers will include DCP3 Child & Adolescent Development volume editors and authors Don Bundy, Lia Fernald, Paul Gertler and Jere Behrman. These authors explore the question of whether the science converges on a set of universal elements that support optimal development from preconception to age 8.
