Technical guidelines for video submissions

Image

Video Quality

Please provide videos in 4K resolution. 1080p is acceptable only with prior agreement.

Framing

Frame your shots to allow cropping to 16:9, 1:1, and 9:16 without adding black bars.

Social Media Edits

If editing for social media, include versions under 59 seconds in portrait format for stories, alongside longer square and landscape versions.

Subtitles

Supply a version without subtitles on landscape edits, to avoid subtitles clashing on YouTube, or for people that prefer watching videos without them.

Provide subtitles as a standalone .srt file to facilitate on-platform translation in YouTube.

Audio Quality

Prioritise audio quality with the same attention as video. Use lavalier microphones for interviewees, especially in noisy environments.

YouTube Thumbnails

Capture still images of the subject in their environment for YouTube thumbnails. Avoid using screengrabs from the video, as they may capture unflattering expressions.

Ensure there is free space in the upper, lower, or right-hand thirds of the frame for overlaying video titles.
