The Brookings Institution and the Jacobs Foundation partner to implement a real-time scaling lab to learn from, support, and document the adaptation and scaling of education and early childhood development interventions in cocoa growing communities.
A first workshop with representatives from different areas such as philanthropy, early childhood centers, social enterprises, cocoa and chocolate companies as well as representatives from the Ivorian government is hosted at UNICEF Cote D’Ivoire, Abidjan, from January 29 till 30. The workshop brings together some 60 participants with the overall aim to prepare the stage for the stronger engagement with all parties. The gathering supports the development and scaling up of interventions spanning parenting and early childhood development, primary education, and relevant technical and vocational training.

Brookings and TRECC are putting the spotlight on how to scale up in the education sector including a presentation of key principles. Two group sessions are offered. One session is about challenges and priorities of the government with respect to TRECC’s three areas of intervention: (1) early childhood development, (2) learning to read, write and calculate in primary education, (3) acquiring skills for youth favoring entrepreneurship and employability in rural areas.
The second group session focuses on exploring alignment and adaptations in context of TRECC’s pilot projects contributing to systemic change in Ivory Coast.
