The history and future of learning

A digital museum for children and educators

The Digital Museum of Learning is a free, online museum designed for children and educators. It combines current research with global perspectives to tell powerful stories about how children learn.

The museum is on a mission to bring the history and science of learning to life on-screen, helping educators and children around the world discover better ways to learn and thrive.

Discover what works in education – across time, cultures, and contexts.

The interactive stories are designed for children ages 7–12 and for educators looking to enhance their lessons. The online museum uses science communication and visual storytelling to create engaging learning experiences that are easy to understand and fun to explore.

Each story invites active exploration through striking images, games, puzzles, videos, sounds, artworks, and 3D objects from museums and research projects around the world. Designed with educators in mind, the platform also offers a Teacher zone with customizable tools to build meaningful learning journeys for the classroom and at home.

An initiative of the Jacobs Foundation, the Digital Museum of Learning translates educational research into accessible, engaging content for children and educators. Since its launch in 2023, it has partnered with museums and, starting in 2025, with the global platform for scientific, BOLD, to integrate the latest insights into how children learn.

We invite educators, researchers, and museums to explore, contribute, and collaborate. Help us shape a digital museum that bridges the gap between research and practice. By sharing what works best for children’s learning, we empower children and educators to turn insights into effective and joyful learning.
