Children and Youth in Crisis – A Collaboration with the World Bank

The examination of the effects of financial shocks on the development and well being of children and youth has never before been conducted in a systematic and rigorous way and across different settings. Previous comparisons of the impact of crises on individuals and societies have been largely ad hoc. Therefore, in the aftermath of the last international financial market crisis, the Jacobs Foundation has been collaborating with the World Bank Human Development Network producing a synthesis of experience and evidence reflecting the latest research on the impact of crises on children and youth, leading directly to recommendations for policy. The results of this collaboration, which included an international conference at our conference center Marbach Castle in May 2012, have been presented in a public event on June 18, 2012, at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC
