BOLD celebrates its 10th birthday by launching the Science Communication Fellowship

The Jacobs Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of the BOLD Science Communication Fellowship. This is an exciting opportunity for early-career researchers working in the field of child learning and development to advance their science communication skills.

Selected Fellows will receive dedicated expert mentoring and training in science writing, editing, and video production while producing content that reaches BOLD’s audience of educators and caregivers.

BOLD is a multimedia platform supported by the Jacobs Foundation, where world-leading researchers, science journalists, and practitioners share science-based insights on child development in engaging, accessible formats, helping translate rigorous, complex science into practical guidance that can help shape children’s lives.

With this year marking BOLD’s 10th birthday, the Science Communication Fellowship has been launched to celebrate a decade of making scientific knowledge more accessible and actionable for those who need it most.

The Fellowship lasts six months and will offer up to three researchers:

• A special writing workshop with Annie Brookman-Byrne (PhD), Editor-in-Chief of BOLD, as well as a monthly writing club with the BOLD team.
• Training on how to edit their own work and colleagues’ work.
• Training with experts on producing science communication videos for social media and writing for general audiences.
• A stipend of CHF 5,000 to cover the costs of investing time and resources.

Researchers from around the world are invited to apply, with applications open from 1 September to 31 October 2026.

Communication is such an important part of research, particularly in our field of child learning and development. This Fellowship is an opportunity for researchers to develop their skills in weaving storytelling into science writing, and translating complexity and nuance into accessible formats. Ultimately, researchers who have a passion for sharing their scientific knowledge will have the opportunity to help educators and caregivers better understand and support the children around them.

BOLD is also celebrating its birthday by revisiting their 10 favorite articles over the last decade. They have also shared 10 principles on the science of childhood and asked 10 scientists from across their network for their insights on how children learn and grow.
