Jacobs Social Entrepreneur Fellow

Benjamin Constable

Oxford Saïd

Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, Benjamin gained a BSc, Sum Cum Laude, in Physics from Gettysburg College before moving to South Africa to pursue a fellowship with PeacePlayers International and to play professional basketball for the Kwa Zulu Natal Marlins. During this time, Benjamin noticed that most students within the programme would arrive to school and practice hungry. On the completion of his fellowship in 2016, he decided to design a sustainable initiative to address this nutritional divide. He founded ‘Freshbox,’ a social enterprise that uses a buy-one-give-one model to feed children at-risk of malnutrition. Beginning in his garage, FreshBox has scaled locally to feed hundreds of children in Durban (South Africa).

Benjamin now lives in the United Kingdom where he acts as a Director to FreshBox and works as a Business Engagement Specialist for Active Learning to assist low income students in gaining work experience and further employment opportunities. Benjamin is undertaking the MBA to learn how to scale social enterprises such as FreshBox.
