Change in the management of the Jacobs Foundation

As of July 1, 2019, Sandro Giuliani, Managing Director of the Jacobs Foundation and Delegate of the Board of Trustees, will hand over responsibility for the Foundation’s operations to Fabio Segura and Simon Sommer, who will serve as co-CEOs, in order to focus on his strategic and advisory role at the Jacobs Foundation. As Delegate of the Board, Sandro Giuliani will assist in the transition process and attend to several strategic tasks until the end of 2019. He will join the Board as a regular member at the beginning of 2020.

“As we enter a new strategic phase, the time has come to make room for new developments,” Sandro Giuliani explains. “I am deeply grateful to the Board of Trustees, the Jacobs family and in particular our President, Lavinia Jacobs, for the trust they have placed in me. I look forward to my new role, which will have a more strategic focus.”

The two designated co-CEOs – Fabio Segura, currently Head of International Programs at the Jacobs Foundation, and Simon Sommer, Head of Research – will continue to implement the current Medium-Term Plan (MTP 2020) with its three thematic priorities (the Science of Learning, Early Education and Rural Livelihoods) and lead the Foundation as it moves into its next phase of strategic development. The Board has selected Fabio Segura and Simon Sommer because of their track records implementing ambitious innovations in research, program design, and funding instruments.

“On behalf of the entire Foundation, the Board of Trustees and the Jacobs family, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to Sandro Giuliani for his enormously successful contributions to the Jacobs Foundation over the past 10 years,” says Lavinia Jacobs, President of the Jacobs Foundation Board of Trustees. “I look forward to working even more closely with him on strategic topics in the future as he joins the Board as a regular member. Furthermore, I am confident that his two successors are ideally positioned to provide effective leadership for the Foundation in its future endeavors.”
