New Swiss “Jacobs Science Writer Fellowship” Launched

This new Fellowship brings five U.S. or UK science or health policy journalists to Zurich, Switzerland, from December 1 – 5, 2015. The purpose of the Fellowship is to advance public understanding of the work and research of the 2015 Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize recipient, who is a leading international scholar in the field of youth development. In addition, the Fellowship connects these journalists with Swiss premier research institutions and the Swiss Science Writer Association. The Fellowship covers travel and ground costs. The program in Zurich includes one free day for individual plans and meetings.

The Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize rewards scientific advances of high quality and social relevance in the area of personality development in children and young people. It is of great importance to the Jacobs Foundation that scientific findings from interdisciplinary research should be applied in practice and understood by the public. The Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize is endowed with one million Swiss francs (about $1M / £0.68M).

The Jacobs Foundation was established by Klaus J. Jacobs and his family in 1989 in Zurich, Switzerland, and is one of the leading European foundations in the space of child and youth development. In 2014, the Foundation’s endowment totaled 4.3 billion Swiss francs ($4.5 billion). The Jacobs Foundation’s mission is to contribute to productive youth development by supporting research and intervention projects and through dialogue and network building. The Foundation’s grant making totaled Swiss francs 35.1 M in 2014. About two-thirds of the grantmaking goes to scientific research in child and youth development.
