Edtech Startup Wins Transforming Education Prize

Asafeer Education Technologies wins the Transforming Education Prize, worth 50,000 Swiss francs, offered by TRECC. The company from Dubai provides schools with online digital resources for reading focused on enhancing literacy.

Education is one of the key areas to drive change in emerging markets. Despite a lot of technological progress, even today most rural and low-income communities are especially disadvantaged when it comes to accessing and benefitting from educational services and innovation. This is why the TRECC program (Transforming Education in Cocoa Communities) has partnered with Seedstars World to offer the Transforming Education Prize. 65 start-ups from across the globe competed at the Seedstars summit on April 6th, 2017, at the Swiss Tech Convention Center at EPFL in Lausanne.

“Noting the incredibly important role that technology can play in education access and quality, we were inspired by the number of education entrepreneurs seeking to democratize education and overcome rural learning challenges not only in Cote d’Ivoire but also across the world,” explains Fabio Segura, Head of International Intervention at Jacobs Foundation, founding member of TRECC.

Asafeer Education Technologies is a digital library with illustrated, audible and fun stories that are pushed every month to the tablet of the subscribed children according to their reading skill levels. The start-up wants to make reading fun, help develop emotional intelligence and explain the basic concept such as numbers, letters, and shapes. Asafeer Education Technologies is planning to expand its digital library to other countries such as Côte d’Ivoire.
